December 8th 2018 - News Letter

Hi

Knockout 3rd Round is on the web site

Division One - Please Note - Change of venue for Lyndon Stars - Now playing from Taffs Well Exservicemens Club.

Most Wins is on the web site.
Please Note - This is from Result Cards received up to 8.12.2018.
If you think you should have more wins, please check with your team captain first to ensure he/she has been sending in the result cards.
Any late results will not be accepted.

Winter Fixtures are on the web site.

We had yet another query regarding picking up the white ball after a foul.
"After a foul if the oncoming player wishes the white back in the "D", we advise them to ask the referee to do so, so as not to disturb any other balls".
It is not a foul, it is not loss of frame if the oncoming player puts the white back in the "D".
If, when picking up the white ball, a player touches another ball on the table, that is a foul.
If a player stops the white from going through the mechanism of the table, that is loss of frame.

Winter format is 5 singles and 2 doubles.

Would you please remember that it is Maz that reads the result cards. Foul language on them is not acceptable and could result in the team concerned losing all points for that match and the person that wrote the comments banned from the league.

Couple of rule queries again Sunday.
If a player breaks outside the "D" then it is a foul and the oncoming player has a free shot.
If this happens on the break it is NOT a re-rack.
Same applies if the player chooses to play from the "D" after a foul.

As long as the white ball goes through the mechanism, the oncoming player may retrieve it from the shoot.
This is NOT a foul.
Should a player stop the white from going into a pocket, this is loss of frame.

We have been playing these rules now for a number of years and we still get queries. To the minority that want to change the rules, forget it. This has been brought up at several AGM's and the majority do not want change. Call it what you like but we are a Sunday night pub sport with players that want a night out and if they win it's a bonus. The rules that are played in County etc at the moment will not suit the vast majority of our players.

Summer and Winter team trophies are 8 per team (If more required ask Jon) but will not be given to just one or two players at presentation.
If just one player turns up he gets one trophy, two players - two trophies and so on, up to the maximum 8 trophies.
Trophies and/or prize monies will only be paid to the ones there, other people are not allowed to collect them for you.
Any trophies/prize monies not collected in person on the night is forfeit.

Just a reminder that all tables in the league must have a "D".
If your venue table hasn't got one at the moment, then make sure there is one marked before the winter season starts.

Any new players after the form has been submitted (regardless of how many on original entry) is 3 per player.

Starting the forthcoming winter season we will be changing the way blank result cards are sent out.
As postage rates are so high now, we are trying to go paperless and would like it if all results could be sent via e-mail or text.
If you ask to be sent result cards they will be printed on paper. not card.
Result cards can be picked up from our house. They can also be printed from the web site.

Summer and winter team trophies are 8 per team but will not be given to just one or two players at presentation.
If just one player turns up he gets one trophy, two players - two trophies and so on, up to the maximum 8 trophies.
We are hoping to encourage the whole team to turn up, so if you want your trophy you have to attend.
The same applies to competitions.
Trophies and/or prize monies will only be paid to the ones there, other people are not allowed to collect them for you.
Any trophies/prize monies not collected in person on the night is forfeit.

Another ruling query:
If you hit your own ball first and your opponenets ball goes in it is NOT a deliberate foul or loss of game, it is just a foul.
Please can you make sure that people that ref for you are aware of the rules.
They are written on the web site and also each team should have a rule book.
If you are not sure you can stop the game until you ring us or Colin Hendrickson.

Received another query regarding the filling in of result cards.
It is already on here further down but I will put it on again.
Received a query on the ruling for filling in result cards.
It is Rule 22) in the Rule Book and is as follows:
Home team must provide away team with card with at least first four (winter) and first 3 (summer) names before the start of the match. Away side must then fill in the home team card with their names.

We are trying to send out as much as we can via email because of the postage costs.
We are also encouraging people to send in their results via email. They don't have to be scanned but in the winter season I do need the singles winners names for most wins.
If you haven't given me your email address please let me have it.

Another query regarding colour nomination.
Once a player has nominated his/her colour then he/she remains on that colour no matter what happens next.

Received a query on the ruling for filling in result cards.
It is Rule 22) in the Rule Book and is as follows:
Home team must provide away team with card with at least first four (winter) and first 3 (summer) names before the start of the match. Away side must then fill in the home team card with their names.

I have added CLARIFICTIONS to the bottom of the Playing Rules on the web site.

We have started a page on Facebook to give you even more places to see any relevant news.

If anyone is looking for a venue north of Cardiff, The Railway in Station Road have another table installed making 2 in total.

Would you note that Annual Cups/Shields are the property of the league and are only to be held for a year.
Just because a certain competition has not been run, does not mean you can keep the annual trophy.

Would you please note that new registrations cost 3 per player.
This is regardless of how many were on the initial sheet.
Also you cannot SWAP players free of charge, you can add new players at the usual fee.
Also a reminder that 3 days notice must be given, please do not play people then tell us after, you will be stopped the points.

Would people that need to phone us please do so at a reasonable hour.
Unless it is urgent, please do not ring before 10am or after 10pm.Thank you.

We also have another web address you can use it is www.cardiff-pool-league.com.
This will take you to our main site.

If anyone has an email address they would like to send me, I can then send information to them via email and save on the leagues postage.
You'll get the information quicker as well.

Should you have any playing rules queries you can now ring Colin Hendrickson for advice.
Colin has taken the ref's exam so should be able to help you.
His number is 07958165539.

I have been given a very good Pool Averages Calculator from Dean Phillips of the New Innmates.
If anyone would like a copy for their computer, let me know.

I have put a link onto the front left hand page of our web site that will take you directly to the W.P.A. County results website.

It is very quiet at the moment and there is nothing to report each week so I will not be sending out the weekly e-mails.
Should there be anything important, I will let you know and I will continue to put everything on the website and Facebook where you can read it.
